Beginning the Festival Hunt

Now the extra lovely fun begins: the activity applying to the festival circuit. This will be the primary way the film is seen for the first 1 – 1.5 years. A filmmaker can’t post the full film online until the festival circuit is over, or festivals wouldn’t have any reason to show films!

Th festival applications happen well in advance of the festivals, so even with doing the work for that right now (and continuously every day for a year,) the first screenings won’t be happening at least until September or October of 2014.

This website will have festival appearances as they are scheduled show in the EVENTS page, and on the sidebar to the right.

Masculine Women, Feminine Men

Masculine Women Feminine Men
which is the rooster which is the hen
It’s hard to tell ‘em apart today
And SAY…
Sister is busy learning to shave
Brother just loves his permanent wave
It’s hard to tell ‘em apart today
Girls were girls and boys were boys
when i was a tot,
Now we don’t know who is who or
even what’s what
Knickers and trousers baggy and wide,
Nobody knows who’s walking inside
Those Masculine Women Feminine Men

Cross dressing and mixed-gender behavior has been happening as long as humans have existed! Imagine Australopithecus doing a send up of his favorite female, in a scintillating wooly mammoth gown.

The song “Masculine Women, Feminine Men” (1926) by Merrit Brunies and his Friar’s Inn Orchestra is a nod to the sexual freedom that was being expressed in the Roaring Twenties. It’s a terrifically fun song, and this video edit has some fun film references (certainly not all of them.)

Here are a few worthwhile links that celebrate this band and this particular song. I referenced the Queer Musical Heritage site often, when I was developing my film. Check it out!
